At Bay Optical, we are dedicated to providing the highest standard of optical care to support the health and wellbeing of your eyes. As your local optometrist, we are well equipped to identify, monitor, and help manage a wide range of common eye conditions.

Eye Testing Technology
We use the latest technology for the accurate diagnosis and monitoring of eye conditions, including digital retinal photography, OCT scans, visual field testing, corneal topography, and Keratograph dry eye assessment.
Recently, we added the Eidon Ultra Wide Field confocal scanner to our technology suite. This advanced equipment provides high-definition images in true colour across up to 200 degrees of the retina. It allows us to image the retina, macula, and optic nerve with unprecedented high resolution, wide-field clarity, and true colour detail.
Eye Conditions We Test For
Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration is one of the leading causes of legal blindness in Australia. The term refers to a range of diseases and disorders that affect the macula — the part of the eye responsible for central vision — reducing its effectiveness and impacting the centre of your field of vision. This is why early eye examinations are so important.
The condition often develops gradually, although sudden changes in vision can also occur. People living with macular degeneration may experience difficulty reading or recognising faces, blurred central vision, or colours appearing less vibrant than they should.
Macular degeneration most commonly affects people over 65, with up to one in ten Australians in this age group affected to some degree. Those with a family history of eye disease are also at a significantly higher risk.
Early detection is vital for protecting your long-term eye health. Contact us today to learn how we can help monitor and manage your vision.

Glaucoma
Glaucoma is the name given to a group of eye diseases that gradually damage the optic nerve at the back of the eye.
In many cases, this damage is caused by increased pressure inside the eye due to reduced drainage of aqueous fluid. In other cases, damage may result from poor blood supply to the optic nerve fibres, weakness in the nerve structure, or other underlying issues affecting nerve health.
More than 300,000 Australians live with glaucoma. While it is more common with age, it can occur at any stage of life. As the population ages, the number of people requiring glaucoma monitoring and treatment continues to grow.
Headaches
Headaches are one of the most common discomforts experienced in modern life, affecting people of all ages. What many people do not realise is that visual strain is often a contributing factor.
We use our eyes constantly and spend significant time looking at computers, phones, and television screens. Whether working, studying, gaming, or watching television, prolonged visual effort can place strain on the eyes.
People who work long hours at computers and school-aged children performing visually demanding tasks are particularly prone to eye strain headaches.
Symptoms of eye strain headaches often include pressure above or beside the eyes, especially around the eyebrow area. These headaches may begin quickly and often last for the rest of the day unless relieved. If you experience these symptoms regularly, an eye examination is recommended as soon as possible.
